Had a couple of hours left of daylight so decided to take out the windows and replace with steel. Ill give them coat of red oxide later when the silicon is dry. Got ooze to peel off. I also noticed a lot of water run marks on the inside and wondering where it was coming from. Turns out all the side windows were leaking. Ordered up a large bag of pop rivets and took all the windows out. Re sealed them and popped them back in.

Another little job was fix the leak in the air vent. As it was cracked, ugly and full of security bolts i decided to fill it in This was filled with wire mesh and fibreglass resin. Ill sand and paint later.

The rust

OK. Lifted the wooden floor and found a few rust spots 😀 Looks worse than it is. You can see a previous weld. Whoever did that never cut away enough old rust and its carried on further up the rear.

One below is the largest but they are all on the flat so should be straight forward. This was not as big but i was battering away more rust. Ill get the angle grinder out and cut away all the rot before welding.

Welding 😀
Now stop laughing up the back. This was my first attempt at welding so i got a result (ish) I will go over that again as it looks a bit holy in places but it is sealed.

I got as far as below before running out of welding wire. The bottom weld and far right was the last for the day so you can see i was slowly starting to get better. I never set me or the van on fire so all is good in my book.

Took the plastic covers off my steps toady. You may think this is bad but its good news.

This is the drivers side what i thought had been replaced as it was not painted but it has my VIN number stamped on it. Plus the weld looks like a robot did it.

Below is the Passenger side. Lower back is surface and the holes. R/H is where the step light goes (cover that up) and the other is again from the inside out and has not went though. This is getting scrubbed back and fibreglass stuck over it.

This is the sliding door. This is all surface so rub down and coat it will be good. Again the hole is for a light so that will get treated and covered over. Extra door seals are getting ordered later to help prevent water getting in. Re sealing the side windows just now. Only two still to do and its looking like i have a watertight van.

Not everyone is as lucky. This page is worth a read for anyone thinking of getting a convoy. Make sure its dry

Rusty Old LDV Convoy

So now i am watertight i painted the floor with red oxide paint what helps prevent the rust

The cab i ran out of red oxide. The white is another rust treatment paint. Poor mans Hammerite. You may also notice i have some flash banding down. Its under the mats also and is meant also to prevent the panels vibrating when driving making for a quieter van.

So flashbanding. Stick it everywhere you see a large panel and places where you dont see. This is inside teh door skin. A layer of insulation will also be going on top.

This is the lower panel behind the drivers seat under the window. You dont need a lot as all you want is the panel to stop vibrating and echoing. Had this stuff been 5cm wider i would only have used one strip.
